he Landform Design Institute will sponsor and hold short courses on landform design and sustainable mining. These courses will show practitioners how to design mining landforms, how to design covers that support revegetation, and how to design for construction, monitoring, and maintenance. Participants will look at the tools and case histories they require to complete their own designs and plans.

Instructors will consist of landform experts with many years of experience in the field, and the courses will be offered at international conferences, academic institutions and on-location, where mining companies are operating and local stakeholders reside. The courses can be customized to suit a particular mine or the interests of a group. They can even be given right at an actual mine site, or in a lecture hall, office boardroom, or hotel meeting room. The courses will usually be one to two days long, and will include working through the basics of design and plans, the state of practice today, and the ideal practices of the future. Staged exercises will accompany the courses so teams can put their learnings into action.
