Season 3 of “Getting Closure” podcast underway
CALGARY, AB (AUGUST 15, 2024) – The Landform Design Institute is pleased to announce that its “Getting Closure” podcast, hosted by Mike O’Kane, has embarked on its third season with a three-part series focused on explaining the 12 principles of landform design. The first episode will be available the week of August 19.
O’Kane, Co-Chair of the Institute’s Technical Advisors and a member of the board, sits down with the Institute Founder and Chair Gord McKenna to discuss the principles one-by-one over the course of three episodes. The principles are at the heart of the Institute objective to make landform design routine in the mining industry by 2030.
Launched in 2020, the podcast uses the 12 principles as a jumping off point to explore the challenges presented by the current state of mine closure and reclamation, and to investigate innovative approaches to transforming the field into a sustainable and responsible practice. All previous episodes are publicly available on the Institute’s website. A recording introducing Season 3 is available on the Institute’s website at landformdesign.com/podcast.
With guests from around the world, the wide range of topics the podcast has covered include: the varied approaches to landform design, how to develop communities of practitioners; the importance of mentorship; the value of Indigenous leadership and participation in landform design; and creating renewable energy as part of mine closure.
The podcast kicks off an ambitious fall season for the Institute, which looks forward to publishing its highly anticipated Design Basis Memorandum how-to guide, putting out issues of the Landform Design Quarterly, hosting the “lunch and learn” series for corporate members, and announcing a new short course on landform design.
